In its attempt to maintain its position in the feature phone market, HMD Global has persistently been launching the low-end phones that are basically stripped off smart features. The Finnish company launched the Nokia 150 as its first feature phone when it began its journey in 2016. The Nokia 150 is reportedly coming back in a new avatar. A report has claimed HMD Global could be working on the remake of the Nokia 150, besides a new feature phone dubbed Nokia 125. It is unclear when these both phones will make their way to markets, but another feature phone Nokia 220 4G has just debuted in the Chinese market.
The information comes courtesy renowned tipster Roland Quandt, who claims HMD Global has at least two feature phones in the pipeline. The Nokia 150 is getting remodelled in what is codenamed TA-1235. Another feature phone that is under development is the Nokia 125, the tipster said on Twitter. The codename for Nokia 125 is TA-1253. Without giving away any further details, such as the design and specifications of the upcoming feature phones, Quandt has claimed they exist in HMD Global’s unofficial stable. Both feature phones will likely be targeted at the low-end price segment and debut in most countries, including India, as and when they go official.
The Nokia 150 remake and the Nokia 125 are unlikely to be powered by the KaiOS, which runs a good range of feature phones from HMD Global and other manufacturers. Although basic, KaiOS has a number of smart features to a certain level, besides supporting apps such as WhatsApp, Google, YouTube, Gmail. Moreover, if we go by what the Nokia 150 and Nokia 130 pack inside, we could be looking at a QVGA non-touchscreen display with a resolution of 240×320 pixels, a VGA rear camera, an MP3 player, an FM radio, and the iconic Snake game among others. Similarly, the price could be set to the tune of $20 – $26 (roughly Rs 1,500 – Rs 2,000).
Separately, HMD Global has introduced a 4G variant of the Nokia 220. Called the Nokia 220 4G, the feature phone supports 4G VoLTE network in China, along with specifications that include a 2.4-inch QVGA non-touchscreen display with a resolution of 240×320 pixels, a 0.3-megapixel rear camera, a 1200mAh battery, an MP3 player, a wireless FM radio, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The Nokia 220 4G costs CNY 299, which translates to roughly Rs 3,200.
